Q2 Promotion Test

The next promotion test will take place Monday, June 5th-Friday, June 9th. The format of the test will follow that of the previous promotion test. Students will sign-up for a 10 or 15 minute timeslot on their assigned day of testing. Students must show up on their assigned date and at their assigned time. All students will be tested individually. There will be NO regular class from Monday, June 5th-Saturday, June 10th.

Sign-ups for the promotion test will open Monday, April 24th and end on Saturday, May 20th. A link to the sign-up form will be sent out on our remind messaging system the day sign-ups open. A poster will be posted outside the school with a sign-up QR code. Additionally, you can sign-up for the test at the front desk. Timeslot sign-ups are on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to sign-up early to get a desired timeslot. The deadline to pay the $80 promotion test fee is Saturday, May 20th. Payments will be taken at the front office. Students who fail to sign-up or pay the testing fee by the deadline will not be able to test.

If you are unable to test during that week due to vacation, sickness, or for any other valid reason, let us know and we can schedule a make-up test date and time for you.

While we love to see students promote to the next rank, we encourage students to wait until they are ready if they do not feel prepared to test. All students should have a firm grasp on the basic stances, strikes, blocks, and kicks.

For this promotion test, please read below what is expected of our students. If a student demonstrates a poor understanding of any of the below, the student is at risk of failing the promotion test and not receiving their next belt. We will be using a three strikes = fail system. Strikes are given at the discretion of the examiners and are based on various factors. Students who fail can have their testing fee put towards the next test.

UPDATED 4/26: Additionally, students will not know whether they have passed or failed the test until the following week, where belts will be handed out to those who have passed.

What students are expected to know at the minimum in order to promote:

  • ALL of their forms

  • Their board break

  • Basic Exercises: Jumping jacks, squats, pushups, skyrockets

  • Strikes: Punches | For higher (green & up) belts: Knives, Palms, Hammers, Backfists

  • Blocks: Down, Inside, High, Outside | For higher belts: Knife variations

  • Kicks: High, Axe, Front, Round, Side | For higher belts: Tornado, Hook, Crescent, and all jumping variations

  • Stances: Horse, Walking, Front | For higher belts: Back, Tiger

  • The Five Tenets
